From the shores of the Gare Loch...

Ardbeag Crafts is based in a 300-year-old farm cottage, perched on the edge of the Gare Loch in the Southern Highlands of Scotland. Each piece is inspired by the beautiful vistas that can be seen from my loom and spinning wheel, and by the rich textile history that has long touched this land.

My sustainably-sourced and handwoven textiles are truly one-of-a-kind, each as wild and rugged as the woods and mountains on my doorstep. They are steeped in my studies of Scotland's ancient weavers, from Viking cloaks woven on a replica warp-weighted loom, to chunky woollen rugs that could have graced an 18th Century croft.

But the story doesn't end here: through rescuing undervalued wool fleeces that would otherwise go to landfill, and repurposing mill waste such as cone ends and selvedge edges, I do my small part toward a greener future for the textiles world. It is my hope that through its versatility and renewability, wool can show us a path away from fast fashion, and toward more sustainable practices.

I am passionate about sustainable fibre crafts and historical weaving techniques, and I love to share this passion via touring textiles exhibitions across Scotland and beyond. I am proud to be curating the Forgotten Fleece Tales touring exhibition in partnership with Creation Mill CIC, and working toward the Varafeldur touring exhibition in 2026.
